Muntingia calabura
(Jamaican cherry tree, buah cheri)
|
Family: Elaeocarpaceae
Origin:Tropical America

When I was young, the buah cheri
trees around where I lived were always a source of attraction for us
children. The older boys, naturally the leaders would lead younger ones on
missions to catch spiders or to check out the fruit trees in the nearby
kampong. Sometimes, we get to tag along these ‘big brothers’
and of course I never noticed the flowers much as a kid.
Now when I see these buah cheri
trees, memories of my childhood come flooding back. There are a number of
these in the Marina
City Park
and there are always tiny birds flitting from branch to branch.
Place: Jalan Kayu
